Brandenburg's first health hackathon: innovations for medicine!
The first Health Hackathon Brandenburg will take place on October 9th and 10th, 2025 at the THB Campus in Brandenburg an der Havel. The organizers are the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB), the Brandenburg University of Technology (THB) and the Brandenburg an der Havel University Hospital. This innovative event is under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and aims to develop creative, digital and practical solutions to current challenges in the healthcare system.
Both students and experts from the fields of medicine, IT, technology, business and science can take part. Participants have the opportunity to try their hand at topic-specific solutions that address the diverse challenges facing our healthcare system. The central topics include telemedical aftercare, intuitive navigation in hospitals, secure logistics and sustainable care processes. The well-being of employees and efficient, digitally supported work processes are also up for discussion.
Innovative solutions and awards
The event is accompanied by an expert jury that presents and awards the best ideas. In addition, participants have the opportunity to further develop their concepts in pilot projects. Participation in this hackathon is free and registration is open now. Further information can be found on the website health-hackathon-brandenburg.de. The importance of such events becomes particularly clear in the context of other health hackathons. For example, the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein is hosting a healthcare hackathon in Berlin from May 29th to 31st, 2024. The focus is on the practical use of artificial intelligence and large language models in medicine. Here too, political representatives, patients and experts are invited to work together to develop solutions that meet the current requirements in the healthcare system.
The role of digitalization
A central concern of these innovation processes is digitalization in the healthcare system. The exchange of data between different platforms, systems and medical devices is crucial for successful networking. However, confidential medical information must be particularly protected. It is essential to anonymize health data to protect patient privacy and avoid cyber attacks that can have serious consequences.
The EU NIS2 Directive sets new standards for cyber security in healthcare. The need for comprehensive security concepts and data protection measures becomes clear. Approaches for data sovereignty and control are just as important as the integration of safety engineering expertise in order to minimize the risk to life and limb and ensure a high level of safety for everyone involved.
Overall, it shows that the Health Hackathon Brandenburg creates a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration that can contribute to solving pressing problems in the healthcare system. The upcoming event promises to be a significant step towards a digital future for the healthcare sector.
