German teachers from Eastern Europe meet at the Viadrina: exchange of methods!

From March 26th to 28th, 2025, an important conference for German teachers from Central and Eastern Europe took place at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). This event, which was specially designed for teachers from Poland and the Republic of Moldova, served to exchange ideas about modern methods of learning and teaching German. The Viadrina offered an inspiring framework for dialogue and the participants' further professional development.

The conference program included a variety of workshops that dealt with important aspects of German teaching. This included the development of writing skills, literary translation in foreign language lessons and the preparation of language courses at universities. The workshops were led by well-known experts, including Franziska Liebetanz from the Center for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Ilona Czechowska and Dr. Malgorzata Szajbel-Keck from the Karl Dedecius Foundation and Astrid Kapler from the Language Center.

Professional exchange and networking opportunities

The participants had the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge, but also to make new professional contacts. This exchange was a central part of the conference as it allowed teachers to contribute their own experiences and learn from each other.

In addition to the academic program, participants were offered various activities to get to know Viadrina and its facilities better. This included visits to the university libraries of the Viadrina and the Collegium Polonicum as well as the language learning center. The teachers also had the opportunity to take part in a city tour of Frankfurt (Oder), which was rounded off with a visit to the Kleist Museum.

Importance of the conference

This conference highlights the relevance and need to adapt German lessons to a wide range of young people. The event promoted not only the exchange of best practices, but also the development of new teaching skills necessary to meet the challenges of modern language teaching. At a time when exchange between countries and cultures is becoming increasingly important, Viadrina played a central role in the further training of German teachers from abroad.
