Brandenburg Film University: Top placement in the 2025 start-up radar!

The Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University took an impressive third place in the category of small universities in the Founding Radar 2025 of the Donors' Association for German Science. With 55.4 out of 60 possible points, the university is in the top group when it comes to supporting start-ups in Germany. This award is particularly noteworthy as Brandenburg once again takes the lead in start-ups per student, which strongly underlines the support for start-ups in the region. Film University reports that the university has developed a variety of initiatives and practical teaching formats to promote a lively start-up culture.

The start-up radar, which has been created since 2012 in collaboration with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, evaluates the efforts of universities to strengthen the start-up culture in Germany. Founding radar included the dimensions of start-up awareness, qualification, support and institutional anchoring in the analysis. This also includes start-up activities, networking as well as monitoring and evaluation activities.

Successful start-up support

The film university operates a start-up service that provides comprehensive support to those interested in starting a business. The free offering ranges from advice to media-specific training to offer solutions for aspiring entrepreneurs. These measures contribute to creating an attractive environment for entrepreneurial students and scientists and tap untapped innovation potential at the university location.

The numbers speak for themselves: In 2023, the Stifterverband registered a total of 2,927 supervised start-ups at German universities, which represents an increase compared to 2021. What is particularly striking are the 1,184 start-ups with knowledge and technology transfer, which make up more than a third of the total. This development dynamic is a direct result of the increased support for start-ups at universities, which aims to transform temporary support structures into permanent, sustainable systems.

Perpetuation as a goal

The current start-up radar 2025 highlights the topic of perpetuation. The aim is to ensure the long-term success of start-up support at universities. This involves building expertise through experienced staff and providing continuous support from university management. Innovation factor university points out that comprehensive offers for start-up support increase the attractiveness of the university for students and that more successful start-up activities are closely linked to development and innovation in the regional environment.

In summary, it can be seen that the Babelsberg Film University is not only a pioneer in supporting university start-ups, but also an important player in strengthening the regional start-up culture. The award in the Startup Radar 2025 confirms the university's sustained success and efforts to create a positive and supportive environment for founders.
