Innovations for the energy transition: Conference in Cottbus on June 10th!

On June 10, 2025, the Energy Innovation Center (EIZ) will host a specialist conference for the second time on the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg campus. Around 120 experts from energy technology and the energy industry are invited to discuss current solutions for the energy transition and research results from six EIZ research laboratories. This event gives participants the opportunity to exchange ideas about the latest developments in the energy industry and to present innovative approaches.

The conference will take place as part of the 25th Brandenburg Energy Day, with the “Lausitz Energy Innovation Forum” also planned for the following day, June 11, 2025. The welcoming speakers include Prof. Gesine Grande, the President of the BTU, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andriy Panchenko from COSYS Lab and Stefan Müller from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.

Program of the conference

The program offers a variety of specialist lectures, scientific sessions and poster presentations. Highlights of the event include keynote speeches by Prof. Alessandra Parisio from the University of Manchester, expected at 11 a.m., and Dr. Nils Ole Tippenhauer from the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, who will speak at 3 p.m.

The day also includes three parallel sessions covering specific topic areas. The first session starts at 11:15 a.m. and covers topics such as energy systems, CCS acceptance and P2X chains. In the second and third sessions, which take place in the afternoon, content on bioenergy, CHPs and energy security will be discussed, among other things.

Laboratory tours and networking

The event concludes with a one-hour lab tour at 5:45 p.m. Participants have the opportunity to visit four of the EIZ's six research laboratories, including the EPS Lab, which offers optimizations in network technology, and the ESC Lab, which specializes in hydrogen research. The HPGC Lab with its multi-stage converter laboratory is also part of the tours.

In addition, this conference will focus on hydrogen technologies and their future significance. According to a study conducted by the Fraunhofer Society, the demand for hydrogen and synthetic products will increase significantly by 2050. This study aims to evaluate the various techno-economic developments and scenarios that are particularly relevant for Germany. It should be noted that these scenarios are not to be understood as predictions, but rather show possible development paths in the context of the current political framework.

In connection with the promotion of sustainable technologies, the Fraunhofer Society proposes the transition from linear to circular recycling systems. The circular economy aims to conserve resources by minimizing the use of raw materials, reducing waste production and reducing energy waste. These approaches are essential to achieve the goals of the energy transition and to make industrial transformation sustainable.
