International students conquer Cottbus: cultural exchange live!

On October 17, 2025 the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg 70 exchange students who come to Germany as part of the ERASMUS+ and STUDEXA programs. These initiatives give students from different countries the opportunity to gain academic and cross-cultural experiences. The participating students come from countries such as Egypt, Albania, Algeria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Ghana, France, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Oman, Poland, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan and Ukraine.

The exchange students studying at BTU will enrich the university with new perspectives and a diverse cultural background. Particularly noteworthy is the international course “Transfer-Fluids-Materials in Aeronautical and Space Applications”, which is offered in cooperation with the Université de Bordeaux (France) and the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). Students from the German-Jordan University are also there to combine a semester of study at the BTU with an internship in Germany. In addition, students from D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University are taking part for the first time.

Welcome event with lots of information

As part of the welcome event, the new students received comprehensive information about language courses, the organization of their study programs and the cultural offerings at the university. This also included information about planned day trips for the winter semester 2025/26.

A presentation team from the International Department of the Student Council (StuRa) presented the offers and planned events on campus. The local ERASMUS initiative and the BTU Buddy program presented various support and event offers that are intended to help international students quickly integrate into the university community.

Personal and professional opportunities through international exchange

An international exchange like that at BTU enables students to get to know new teaching and research approaches, develop intercultural skills and expand their language skills. In addition, such programs contribute to the establishment of international networks and the personal and professional development of the participants. The focus is also on promoting cultural diversity and understanding between nations.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports international exchange through various scholarship programs offered through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This includes study and research stays abroad as well as language courses and internships at foreign institutions. Germany is now considered a particularly attractive host country for international students, which not only enriches academic discourse but also promotes the training of highly qualified specialists.

The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg takes a pioneering role with its exchange program by offering students from all over the world a platform through which they can not only expand their knowledge, but also gain personal experience and make international friends.
