Iraqi delegation visits BTU: Focus on innovation in therapeutic science!
A delegation from the Iraqi Embassy and Al Zahrawi University recently visited the Department of Therapeutic Sciences II on BTU's Senftenberg campus. The visit, which took place during the semester break, was led by embassy attaché Dr. Alaa Alshujiery directed. The discussions particularly focused on the BTU's therapeutic approach and didactic teaching concept.
Al Zahrawi University, which has specialized in medical education since its founding in 2013 in Karbala, Iraq, also operates several hospitals in Baghdad. Prof. Dr. Sven Michel, who heads the Department of Therapeutic Sciences II, initiated the exchange and emphasized the importance of innovative sensor technologies and the reduction to biological reference values.
Interest in exchange and cooperation
In the discussions, the Medical Rector of Al Zahrawi University, Prof. Dr. Salam Ahjel, expressed great interest in the BTU's approaches and confirmed that they meet exactly the learning needs that they are striving for. Both institutions agreed to hold further meetings to discuss topics such as student exchanges, joint research projects and academic qualification programs.
Prof. Michel has also initiated a collaboration with the American University in Cyprus, which focuses on the academic education of war refugees and displaced persons from the Arab region. This initiative is particularly relevant as the Iraqi Embassy in Berlin highlights the need to support many young Iraqi people through education.
The medical sector in Iraq
In the broader context, the medical sector in Iraq is characterized by numerous challenges. These include political instability and armed conflict. Despite these difficulties, there is a great need for qualified doctors, which could present an opportunity for foreign medical professionals. To enter the Iraqi Health Service, foreign doctors must pass a licensing exam and register according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health's procedure.
Proficiency in the Arabic language is crucial for patient communication. Language skills in English are also an advantage, especially in international institutions. Before starting work, it is necessary to apply for the appropriate visas through the Embassy of Iraq. The Iraqi embassy in Berlin not only provides support with visa matters, it also takes care of representing Iraqi interests in Germany and coordinates international relations.
The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq can be reached at Pacelliallee 19-21, 14195 Berlin, Germany, or by telephone at (+49) 30 81 48 8 100. The embassy is open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A prior appointment is required to contact us.
In conclusion, Al Zahrawi University's interest in BTU's therapeutic concepts indicates a future-oriented exchange that not only promotes academic collaboration, but also has the potential to contribute to improving the healthcare system in Iraq. These initiatives could play a crucial role in addressing Iraq's healthcare challenges while broadening the educational horizons of future generations.
