Attention young film lovers: Sehsüchte Festival 2025 in Potsdam!
The Sehsüchte Film Festival, which will take place in Potsdam from April 23 to 27, 2025, relies on the participation of young film fans. The target group is young people between the ages of 13 and 17 who have the opportunity to experience the latest films from all over the world, many of them on the screen for the first time. The films are shown in various competitions and a specially selected jury decides on the awarding of the prize. Those who would like to become part of this youth jury can apply until February 28, 2025. The application can be in the form of text, video, audio or images, and jury members receive free entry to all films and events during the festival. Application information, including name, age, place of residence and motivation, must be emailed to future@sehsuechte.de or sent by post to the Babelsberg Film University. Jury Day will take place on March 22, 2025, where films will be viewed, evaluated and discussed - all while enjoying a pizza.
As the Film University reports, the jury members for the Future section were requested from various cities in spring 2020, including Berlin, Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel, Michendorf and Bredenfelde. Participation in the jury allowed 11-year-olds up to 18-year-old teenagers to get creative. This meant that the applicants were able to freely design the questions of their contributions: whether in the form of text, audio files, handicrafts or their own film and photo productions. In the kids section, ten short films from six countries, including Germany and France, were viewed, while the teens jury watched eight short films and one feature-length film from nine countries, including Argentina and the USA.
The role of the youth jury
The jury is made up of talented young people such as Flora Li Thiemann, Tilman Döbler, Wolfgang Schulz, Fabian Mellendorf and Ayleen Tuncer. The first meeting of the Future Teens jury took place on August 9, 2020, where they evaluated the outstanding films and had creative discussions about content and presentation. The winning films from the Future section will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will take place on September 27, 2020.
In addition, the Children's Film University She made sure that younger children would also enjoy being part of this unique event by founding the Kids Jury. This opened the doors for film enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in the creative world of film at full speed.
