Career boost through ERUA: research, networks and mental health!

From June 16 to 20, 2025, the ERUA Research Week, a key event, took place at the European University Viadrina European Reform University Alliance (ERUA). The aim of the event was to improve career opportunities for the participants and strengthen international networks. At the Research Week, master's students and (post)doctoral students from numerous ERUA partner universities from countries such as Lithuania, Italy and Poland came together to exchange experiences and discuss new doctoral topics.

Numerous workshops were offered as part of the event. Topics such as open science, writing research funding applications and science communication were on the agenda. These workshops are part of the effort to promote new collaborations, particularly within the DAAD-ERUA program. The ERUA Research Week is supported not only by a grant from the DAAD, but also by funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Mental health issue

A central part of the week was the opening lecture given by Dr. Dorothea Böhme was held. She highlighted the important issue of mental health in academia. In this context, participants reported on their personal strategies for coping with mental stress during their doctoral studies. Exchanging experiences and sharing solutions to improve mental wellbeing was an important aspect of the event.

The ERUA Research Week represents a significant platform for the development of research skills. New doctoral topics were presented and can now be discussed in order to increase the quality of academic work. During the five days, participants were able to not only acquire new knowledge, but also make useful contacts that will be important for their future careers.

The DAAD-ERUA project, which runs from the beginning of 2024 to the end of 2027, will further strengthen the cooperation between the partner universities. This initiative aims to create a network that promotes academic research and services delivered internationally.
