Long day of writing: discover creativity and AI at Viadrina!
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the “Long Day of Writing” took place at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). This event was organized by the Center for Teaching and Learning (ZLL) and was aimed at students and teachers at Viadrina and other universities. The goal was to work on postponed writing projects and promote productive writing in a collaborative atmosphere. Participation was free of charge.
The “Long Day of Writing” celebrated its 15th anniversary this year. In previous years, the event was known as the “Long Night of Writing” and was first launched in 2010 by the Viadrina Writing Center. The day offered a platform for exchange and concentrated writing both on site and online from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Diverse program in the co-writing space
In the Gräfin Dönhoff building, room GD 03, the participants were able to become active in a co-writing space. Various activities took place there, including a hybrid “Shut Up and Write!”, pop-up workshops on topics such as concentration, learning and stress management, and a yoga session for relaxation. At the same time, an open writing consultation offered the opportunity to receive direct feedback and support.
A special highlight of the day was the AI laboratory, which offered space for experiments and exchanges about the integration of artificial intelligence in the scientific work process. Teachers had the opportunity to experience concentrated writing time and revise their teaching sequences with AI experts.
Inspiring lectures and individual support
The program also included a variety of workshops and advisory services. This included individual writing advice, a writing type test to identify your own writing type and workshops in the university library. The topics ranged from correct citation to efficient source searching and targeted research. These formats created comfortable writing atmospheres that were encouraged in open, collaborative spaces.
In addition to the practical workshops, the event also had cultural highlights. The author Sören Bollmann read from his book “Murder in the Half City”, which further enriched the day.

The initiative shows how important collegial support and exchange about writing cultures are in science European University report could.
The commitment to writing is always upheld at Viadrina, which is clear in the various formats and offerings in recent years. With this event, the ZLL created a platform that integrates both traditional and modern approaches to writing to meet the different needs of all participants, such as europa-uni.de reports.
