MHB farewell: 79 graduates celebrate their shared success!

On July 12, 2025, the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) celebrated a significant milestone: the farewell to 79 graduates who successfully completed their studies in the fields of human medicine, psychology and health services research. During the ceremony, MHB President Prof. Hans-Uwe Simon emphasized the special symbolic power that this joint degree has for the solidarity at the university. This was the first time that the graduates from these courses were celebrated together, which underlines the community spirit of the MHB. 62 of the 79 graduates personally took part in the ceremony in Brandenburg an der Havel.

The distribution of graduates shows the broad spectrum of the MHB: 45 graduates came from human medicine, 30 from psychology (Bachelor) and 4 from health services research. Prof. Simon thanked the dedicated students, including Lilith Bechinger, Selina Böttcher and Julian Bredehorst, who made a significant contribution to the celebratory event. A special highlight of the evening was the impulse from Prof. Thomas Stamm, followed by emotional speeches from Charlotte Buhre, Anika Volkmar and Janno Hellmann.

Awards for outstanding achievements

During the ceremony, several graduates received awards for their outstanding achievements. Tabea Winkler (psychology), Rebecca Lehmann (medicine) and Maximilian Würz (health care research) were honored for their special academic successes. In addition, Selina Böttcher (medicine) and Janno Hellmann (psychology) were recognized for their extraordinary commitment. An honorary award for Jan Auswitz (Medicine) was presented to him for his services to the MHB, which included co-founding the General Student Committee (AStA) and setting up a bicycle repair station to promote sustainability.

In his laudation, Dr. Eric Alexander Hoffmann Auswitz’s extensive commitment, particularly with regard to diversity and social issues at the university. The celebration was musically accompanied by Sebastian Ripl and his band and moderated by Tina Knop. A champagne reception also rounded off the event and offered the graduates, their families and friends the opportunity to celebrate together.

The development of the MHB

The MHB was founded in 2014 with just 86 students and has developed strongly since then. There are currently over 1,000 students enrolled at the university. In 2024, the MHB said goodbye to 50 graduates who began their studies under special conditions during the corona pandemic, and the focus on combating the shortage of doctors in Brandenburg will remain a central concern in the future. In addition to medical courses, the university also offers dentistry and psychology. This year's 10th anniversary marks another significant occasion in the history of MHB, which continually strives to train highly qualified specialists.
