New housing offer for students in Brandenburg an der Havel!

The Brandenburg Theodor Fontane Medical School (MHB) has created new housing options for students in Brandenburg an der Havel. In a cooperation between the AStA and the Studentenwerk West:Brandenburg, ten places in three shared apartments are now available. The shared apartments consist of a 5-person shared apartment, a 3-person shared apartment and a 2-person shared apartment, which are located at Zanderstraße 10a-g.

Interested students can expect a monthly rent of around 320 euros, which includes electricity and water, but does not include internet. The rental contracts are initially offered on a semester-by-semester basis, but can be extended. A flexible start date for the rental agreements is also planned, from September 1st, September 15th or October 1st. Marion Brüning is available as a contact person for further information and applications. She can be reached by email at marion.bruening@mhb-fontane.de or by telephone at (03381) 2122800.

More housing options

In addition to the new residential spaces at the MHB, there are further options in Brandenburg an der Havel. For example, the University Hospital of Brandenburg an der Havel (UKB) offers 28 furnished shared rooms, with monthly costs of around 350 euros. A contact person for this is Ms. Haase, who can be reached at m.haase@klinikum-brandenburg.de. Furthermore, WOBRA, the housing association of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel, provides special offers for students. An overview of various housing providers is available on the City of Brandenburg's homepage.

The living environment in dormitories is not suitable for everyone. Students who would like alternative accommodation options should find out about applying for a housing entitlement certificate (WBS). This certificate serves as proof of entitlement to subsidized housing, which can be particularly interesting for students.

Residence permit in Brandenburg

The application for a residence permit must be submitted to the responsible municipality and is subject to income limits. The total income of the applicant and the relatives living in the household must not exceed the provisions of the Housing Support Act. To apply for a WBS in Brandenburg, permanent residence in Germany is required and the annual income must be 15,600 euros or less, although child and housing benefits are not counted as income.

The residence permit is valid for one year. If no apartment is found within this period, a new application is necessary. However, if a rental agreement for an apartment is presented, no further application is necessary. The applications can be submitted to offices, municipalities and independent cities, where the application forms are also available.

It is particularly important to note that priority in the allocation of affordable apartments follows legal regulations. Pregnant women, families and households with children, young married couples, single parents with children, older people and people with severe disabilities have priority access to social housing.

In summary, it can be said that the new housing options at the MHB are a step in the right direction to improve the housing situation of students in Brandenburg an der Havel and at the same time promote alternative options such as the residence permit. The variety of housing alternatives should benefit many students.
