Nychos impresses with anatomical mural at the Neuruppin Medical School!

In August 2025, the Brandenburg Theodor Fontane Medical School (MHB) in Neuruppin received a high-profile visit: the internationally known street artist Nychos transformed the Institute of Anatomy into a creative space. His mural “The Dissection of Theodor Fontane” represented not only an impressive work of art, but also a deeper connection between art and medicine.

Nychos, who comes from a traditional hunting family, has developed a deep interest in the anatomy of the human body. His stay at the MHB enabled him to gain insights from Professor Andreas Winkelmann and Dr. Winning Silke Storsberg, which was the highlight of his visit. “The Dissection of Theodor Fontane” features his signature imagery depicting animals, figures and pop culture icons in cross-sectional and x-ray views.

Art and anatomy in dialogue

Nychos' works are known for their complexity and depth. It is no coincidence that he chose anatomy as his central theme. In his works he explores how deeply one can go into the matter, an approach that is anchored in his artistic creation. He combines various media and draws on his roots in graffiti and street art culture to explore living species through anatomical depictions. He prefers to use spray cans and large walls.

The visit to the MHB fits seamlessly into Nychos’ artistic philosophy, which focuses on contrasts such as life and death as well as darkness and brightness. His works, often characterized by the layering of physical structures such as skin, muscles and organs, create a connection between art and science.

Insights into medical training

The MHB offers medical students comprehensive training in anatomy in their first semester. The curriculum includes important elements such as seminars, microscopic internships and the opportunity to prepare yourself. This hands-on training not only promotes fine motor skills, but also an understanding of individual variation in the human body, which is crucial for aspiring medical professionals.

In addition, topics such as death, dying, aging and body donation are discussed. The student “Prep-AG” supports the courses with tutorials and helps fellow students to find their way around complex anatomical content. Interested future students have the opportunity to apply for the 2026 summer semester by October 6, 2025.

Nychos' visit to MHB reinforces the connection between art and science, offering not only a new look at anatomy, but also an inspiring perspective for the next generation of medical students.

MHB reports that with his stay in Neuruppin, Nychos not only created an important work of art, but also gave an impulse for the examination of human anatomy and its relevance in art. NYCHOS illuminates his creative work and the background to his art, while City wall art giving him the status of an internationally recognized graffiti artist whose works have become an integral part of the streets of the world.
