Sehsüchte 2025: A film culture festival in Potsdam awaits you!

From April 23 to 27, 2025, the city of Potsdam will once again be the center of the international student film festival Sehsüchte. This year the 54th edition of the festival takes place under the motto “beyond”. The event will present 170 works from 25 countries, including feature films, short films, documentaries, animated films, screenplays and VR projects. Sehsüchte offers aspiring filmmakers a significant platform to present their innovative and courageous works and to make contacts in the industry, such as sehsuechte.de reported.

The organization and implementation of the festival is in the hands of the students Babelsberg Film University KONRAD WOLF. These committed young filmmakers have developed a program that covers a wide range of themes, aesthetics and styles. Particularly noteworthy is the “Committed Film” category, which honors works that deal with current social issues and marginalized groups. The Future section is aimed specifically at children and young people aged 6 to 17 in order to promote their perspectives.

Variety of program offerings

In addition to the competitions and film screenings, the festival is also enriched by special sections. The Sehsüchte Specials cover various regions and social issues and the Focus: Animation section highlights the creative diversity of the animation craft. Another important component is the retrospective, which shows films from the Babelsberg Film University from past decades, as well as the Showcase section, which presents current highlights from the film university and the partner university Kourtrajmé Dakar in Senegal.

The interactive exchange is promoted by the exhibition BEYOND THE SCREENS, which presents new media, projection mapping and immersive VR works. Great attention is also paid to the writing addiction department, which offers competitions and workshops on innovative scripts. The event program also includes gala events, panel talks and parties that stimulate networking in the film industry.

Cultural contact zones and challenges

Film festivals like Sehsüchte are not just presentation platforms, but also play an essential role in cultural exchange. They connect filmmakers and audiences and offer space for discursive formats. The importance of such festivals has increased significantly in recent years against the backdrop of digital transformations. The coronavirus pandemic has meant that festivals have had to rethink their formats, and many are now also hosting online events. Nevertheless, there remains hope that audiences will find their way back to traditional cinemas and festivals, which underlines the relevance of film festivals in the current media landscape shortfilm.de determines.

Ticket sales for Sehsüchte 2025 began on April 14th, and students from Brandenburg have the opportunity to take part in the festival free of charge. This increases accessibility and promotes diverse exchange within film culture.
