Studying abroad: Workshop for a successful international future!
On June 4, 2025, an important workshop took place at the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) aimed at students preparing to study abroad. More than 50 participants ensured that this event became a valuable exchange point for future exchange students. The workshop emphasized intercultural communication and cultural sensitivity, important aspects that are becoming increasingly important in today's globalized world. BTU reports that The students not only had the opportunity to discuss their expectations and fears in group discussions, but also learned valuable strategies for coping with culture shock.
The participants were accompanied by former students who completed their studies abroad at institutes such as the Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia and the Université de La Réunion in France. These companions shared valuable insights, particularly on the impact of cultural influences on personal assumptions and the need to prepare for different “rules of the game” in unfamiliar academic environments.
Diverse exchange programs
The workshop covered various exchange programs available to students, including ERASMUS+ and STUDEXA. Participants could look forward to a wide range of destinations for their semester abroad, including countries such as Spain, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, China and Namibia. This opens up a variety of opportunities to broaden cultural and academic perspectives.
For students who would like to take part in an exchange program, according to the LMU Application requirements to be observed. The application should ideally be submitted in the 1st or 2nd semester of the master's program, with the deadline for submitting the application being January 31st.
Support through scholarships
International student exchange is not only promoted by universities, but also at the state level. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supported by various initiatives, including scholarship programs from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). These programs are intended to support students during study and research stays abroad and promote, among other things, language courses, summer schools and internships.
Studying abroad enables you to acquire intercultural skills, establish international networks and expand language skills. These experiences not only contribute to personal development, but also improve graduates' professional opportunities and strengthen the country's competitiveness.
At the end, the workshop participants not only received a certificate of participation from the International Relations Office, but also a gym bag with useful items for their upcoming stay abroad. Students were also encouraged to take pictures with these merchandise items during their stay, which may be published in an exhibition.
