Students from Germany among the best film talents at BAFTA!
On May 1, 2025, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the longlist for the 2025 BAFTA Student Awards. Among the 75 projects that were selected are five productions from the Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Film University, which represents a remarkable success for the institution.
The nominated films are:TOUGH MOVES,SILENT,ALMOST UNNOTICED,WALKING ALONEandTEXT YOU WHEN I’M HOME. A total of 1,034 works from the areas of film, games and immersive media were submitted. These submissions come from 154 schools in 39 countries, including countries such as Australia, Brazil, India and the United States.
International diversity of submissions
The large number of submissions shows the diversity of creative talents that come from different cultures and backgrounds. Submissions include countries such as Argentina, Denmark, France, Japan and many more. This international perspective enriches the competitive landscape and highlights global interest in the BAFTA Student Awards.
The longlist is an important precursor to the competition as it brings together the best projects in the categories of animation, documentary, feature film, games and immersive media. All students on the longlist are invited to take part in a week-long virtual event series. These events offer networking opportunities with industry professionals as well as internationally recognized colleagues, which represents a valuable opportunity for many participants to network in the film and media industry.
Career opportunities and support through BAFTA
Participating in this series of events not only gives students the opportunity to present their work to the industry, but also gain access to expertise from BAFTA members. Support in transitioning into the industry is a particularly important aspect that BAFTA offers. Finalists are even invited to Los Angeles to participate in programs and other networking events with industry professionals.
The official selection process ends with the announcement of the finalists, which is scheduled for the end of May 2025. Expectations are high, not least because of the wide range of talent and ideas that the longlist represents.
The competition is a great opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to launch their career in the creative industry and make valuable connections. Film University emphasizes that this success reflects not only the creativity of the students, but also the quality of education at the institution.
