Viadrina celebrates graduates: Global talents are taking off!
On June 6, 2025, an important event took place at the European University Viadrina. The master's program in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHL) celebrates a graduation ceremony that symbolizes numerous successes and opportunities for the graduates. This celebration is scheduled for July 4, 2025 in the Lodge Hall, where graduates and their guests will gather to celebrate their achievements.
Program director Prof. Gerard C. Rowe leads the master's program, which attracts international students, including an impressive group of five graduates. They were present during the celebrations, while four other graduates were absent. The graduates in attendance include:
In addition, Abayomi Medemaku from Nigeria received a Diploma of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. The keynote speaker Nelly Sarpong, lawyer and author, who completed her IHL master’s degree herself in 2018, paid homage to the graduates with her inspiring life story under the title “The Tapestry of a German-Born Ghanaian”. This story highlights her career from the Ghanaian embassy in Berlin to her current role as a writer and creative entrepreneur in Düsseldorf.
International applications and deadlines
The European University Viadrina makes it easy for international students to apply. For the summer semester 2025, the early application deadline for non-EU applicants is January 1, 2025, while the regular deadline is February 15, 2025. These deadlines are crucial for students who need a visa to come to Germany. Applicants must submit a number of documents including their diplomas and transcripts and proof of English language proficiency.
Special conditions apply for international applicants. For example, people with a foreign university entrance qualification can either register via “uni-assist e.V.” or apply directly via Hochschulstart. Further information is available on the respective websites. The information infrastructure is also supported by support regarding technical problems app-master-ihl@europa-uni.de provided.
Access for international students
The university operates on an international terrain in which the equality of international applicants plays a major role. Applicants who are residents or come from countries of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) can apply under the same conditions as German applicants. Language skills are important for many study programs, although knowledge of German is not required to participate in the IHL program.
With a clear application process and supporting resources, such as the information provided by Hochschulstart, students are encouraged to begin their academic journey in Germany. The European University Viadrina ensures that international students receive the information and support they need to successfully integrate into the German education system and achieve their goals. The graduates of the IHL program are proof of the success and diversity that this university offers.
