Viadrina invites you: Exciting lectures and workshops in May 2025!
On May 8, 2025, the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) will present an extensive program of events that enriches the academic and cultural landscape. The focus is particularly on the Ukraine Lecture Series as well as a variety of other lectures and workshops that deal with current social and historical issues.
The Ukraine Lecture Series will take place on Monday, May 12th at 6:00 p.m. with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Georgiy Kasianov from the University of Lublin opened. His topic, "Does Ukraine Possess an Agency? A Historical Perspective," will be discussed in the Gräfin Dönhoff Building, Room GD 102. At the same time, a lecture by Prof. Dr. Felix Creutzig from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He will speak about “AI Governance: Sustainability, Social and Safety Considerations” in the main building, room HG 110. Participation is also possible online via Zoom, which increases the reach of the event europa-uni.de reported.
Diverse workshops and events
As part of the event series, furniture making workshops will also take place on the campus meadows between May 12th and 15th, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. These practical workshops offer participants the opportunity to learn craft skills.
Then, on Tuesday, May 13th at 6:15 p.m., Dr. Jürgen Luh will give a lecture in the lodge house about the "Association of Queen Luise (1923–1934). The beginning". Wednesday, May 14th is also promising with a press conference on the annual report “Viadrina 2024” at 11:30 a.m. and a panel discussion on gender and human rights at 6:30 p.m., including representatives from UN Women and the LMU Munich.
On Thursday, May 15, there will be a Brown Bag Lecture on Kant's Critique of Judgment in the Context of Colonial Capitalism, and there will be an awarding of the Viadrina Prize to Dr. Ewa Łabno-Falęcka celebrated at 4:00 p.m. in the lodge hall of the lodge house.
Figureheads of culture and history
The cultural heritage is passed on through various exhibitions. A highlight is the exhibition “Kant & Königsberg”, which has been on display in the Gräfin Dönhoff building since April 8th. This is complemented by the exhibition “Some Were Neighbors,” which can be viewed at the Viadrina Municipal Museum from May 8 to December 30, 2025. Entry is free. In addition, the “Oder-Los” exhibition runs until May 23, 2025.
The comprehensive range of events will be enriched by a number of topics and perspectives, which will be covered in further lectures as part of the Ukraine Lecture Series. These lectures highlight, among other things, the complexity of Ukrainian EU integration and the geopolitical challenges in the region. The next dates in this series are May 19th and May 26th, with topics centering around integration into the EU market and the impact of war on borders, such as kiu.europa-uni.de highlights.
