World-class guitarist Goran Krivokapić impresses in Cottbus!
A master concert will take place at the BTU Cottbus on April 28, 2025, which will enchant listeners with works by renowned composers such as Mauro Giuliani, Manuel Maria Ponce and Dušan Bogdanović. The highly acclaimed guitarist Goran Krivokapić, a multi-award-winning musician from Montenegro, will perform as a soloist. Admission to this special event is free, but donations are requested to benefit the Cottbus Guitar Association, making the event a cultural highlight in the region. The concert is organized by the Association for the Promotion of the Classical Guitar in Cottbus and Brandenburg e. V., which is dedicated to promoting the classical guitar and supporting young talent.
Goran Krivokapić is a master of his craft and enjoys international recognition. He won his first international competition at the tender age of 14 and has a total of 18 first prizes in major competitions, including the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Concert Artist Competition. He also received the Chittara d'Oro award twice at the International Guitar Convention in Alessandria, Italy, and has performed numerous times throughout his career in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. These prestigious venues include the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.
The vita of a guitarist
Krivokapić is not only active as a soloist, but also as an interpreter, lecturer and juror at international festivals. His engagements include the Koblenz International Guitar Festival and the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada. He has also worked with various orchestras, including the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. He has shaped the musical training of guitar students at renowned institutions such as the Cologne University of Music and the Detmold University of Music and is considered a sought-after master class leader worldwide.
His commitment also extends to social projects such as “Rhapsody in School”, whose aim is to integrate classical music into schools. Interestingly, Krivokapić has been part of the Montenegrin Guitar Duo with Danijel Cerović since 2008, which made a name for itself with interpretations of J. S. Bach's English Suites. His musical focus is on developing new works for the classical guitar, particularly through collaboration with contemporary composers.
A look at regional cultural funding
The event at the BTU Cottbus represents an important contribution to the cultural landscape of the region and is aimed at all age groups. The association for the promotion of classical guitar relies on low-threshold accessibility, especially for young guitar students. This contributes to the spread and appreciation of classical music in the region.
In addition to promoting the classical guitar, the club also wants to provide a cultural offering that is appealing across generations. In this context, initiatives such as the new concert series “Concert in the Afternoon”, which the Seniors’ Council in Villingen-Schwenningen launched, are worth mentioning. The aim is to bring people of all generations together and create shared music experiences.
Admission to the concerts is also free, but donations for the artists are requested. The Seniors' Council plans to enrich the region's cultural life and meeting places through a variety of events in various locations. These projects illustrate how important it is to convey classical music enjoyment and make it accessible to society.
