Science you can touch: Finsterwalde invites you to the 4th Science Slam!

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the 4th Brandenburg Science Slam will take place in the Finsterwalder Brauhaus. Three talented scientists from the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg present themselves here to convey their research results in an entertaining and clear way. Participants each have 10 minutes to present their topic to an interested audience. Their creative approach to complex scientific content contributes to the success of the format, which promotes scientific communication and reaches a broad public. The BTU reports that Admission is free, but registration is recommended.

The speakers from the BTU bring exciting topics to the stage. Dr. Marten Klein sheds light on the question “Jump in the water – what stairs have to do with energy storage”. In her lecture, Marie Tallarek addresses the challenges during birth with “If the plan has gaps: This is how midwives think and negotiate self-determined birth”. Mareike Herold asks: “Opencast mining landscape as a world heritage?”, which is important for the cultural and natural identity of the region.

In addition, other participants also enrich the event. In her lecture, Dina Khukhunaishvili from the University of Potsdam examines how fraudsters enchant hearts with “I love you – and your IBAN”. Victoria Schemenz from the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces explains, “What holds bones together at the core and at the same time makes them stable and flexible.” Sebastian Schulzev from the Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics will dedicate his appearance to the topic “Wafer Bonding: A Story About Food and Superheroes”.

The idea of ​​the Science Slam came about in 2021 on the initiative of Science Minister Manja Schüle. Since then, the format has successfully established itself in Brandenburg. Events are planned in both Finsterwalde and Spremberg, which will take place on June 6th and 27th, 2025. Science Slam participants are rated by the audience using score cards, creating an interactive experience that actively engages viewers.
