Young researchers inspire at the regional Jugend forscht” competition in Bremen!

On March 9, 2025, the regional competition “Jugend forscht” Bremen North took place on the campus of the Constructor University. This event was created in collaboration with KUKA Assembly & Test and Constructor University and marked a first for this competition in the region. Under the motto “Turn questions into answers,” the participants in two age groups showed remarkable research projects that were presented in seven subject areas.

The younger participants up to the age of 14 were able to prove themselves in the “Jugend forscht junior” competition, while the older researchers between the ages of 15 and 21 took advantage of the opportunities offered by the regular competition. The students had the chance to present and discuss their ideas on topics such as the world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and spatial sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology.

Awards and special projects

The competition, which took place on February 19 and 20, 2025, allowed young talents from different schools to present innovative approaches and solutions to everyday problems. The following projects particularly stood out among the winning projects in the junior competition:

  • Sophie Herbrich und Meria Bolte mit ihrem Projekt „Klebstoff aus Lebensmitteln“
  • Maarten Busch: „Brennstoffzelle für Motorbetrieb“
  • Liam Wittmann: „Züchten von Kristallen“
  • Joy Joleen Mester: „Regengarten zur Vermeidung von Überschwemmungen“
  • Clemens Stitz, Benedict Mensfeldowski und Emil Rymarczyk: „TSV – der Krankenhausbot“

The project by Fynn Bzik, Marvin Arthur and Adam Atta, which looked at light pollution and its effects on plant growth, was named winner among the older participants. Gabriele Breuer, head of the regional competition, highlighted the importance of partnerships with local companies and institutions to support such initiatives.

Prizes and future participation

Overall, numerous special prizes, cash prizes and non-cash prizes were awarded at the award ceremony. The winning teams will have the opportunity to present their projects as part of the state competition “Jugend forscht Bremen” in April 2025. Gabriele Breuer emphasized the support of over 5,000 teachers who take part in this valuable competition on a voluntary basis and help it to be successful.

“Jugend forscht” includes around 250 partners, mostly from the business sector, who promote commitment to innovative ideas and a spirit of research in the region. For the participants, this competition is not only an opportunity to show their creativity and problem-solving skills, but also a chance to qualify for the national finals, especially the older participants who can move up to a higher level of the competition.

Overall, the regional competition “Jugend forscht” Bremen Nord was an impressive example of talent promotion and innovation, which stimulates both research and the application of knowledge in society.
