New meeting point at the University of Bremen: Science meets networking!
On September 11, 2025, a significant step was taken at the University of Bremen to promote scientific collaboration: the first of a total of 13 new UBRA Meeting Points was ceremoniously inaugurated. This innovative concept is part of the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA), which aims to intensify exchange, cooperation and scientific networking.
The Meeting Point serves as a symbol of the connection between people and institutions within UBRA. The managing director of UBRA, Derk Schönfeld, emphasized the importance of this space for the exchange of ideas and projects. The creation of these meeting spaces is intended to strengthen researchers' identification with the research network, which is a central aspect of the alliance. Rector Jutta Günther highlighted the added value of the alliance for the scientific region and emphasized the values such as diversity and academic freedom that are associated with this project.
Planned expansion and identity
In the coming weeks, identical meeting points will also be installed at the other twelve member institutions. This measure aims to make the cooperation within the alliance visible and to further promote the identity of the research community. Each meeting point consists of eye-catching red wooden benches that were made in the carpentry workshop of the University of Bremen. A QR code at the meeting point leads to a website with information about UBRA and its offers.
The UBRA unites the University of Bremen with twelve non-university research institutions, including important German scientific organizations and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The overarching goal of the UBRA is to create a coordinated space for innovation, infrastructure and research, with the alliance strengthening research collaborations and aligning them strategically. These initiatives make research projects visible to the outside world and promote the sharing of infrastructure for various projects.
Services and support for scientists
Another important aspect of UBRA is the provision of service and advice. This particularly includes the U Bremen Research Alliance Welcome Center, which supports visiting scientists and international guests. The Welcome Center is a valuable partner when it comes to official matters or when looking for accommodation.
The goal of these initiatives is clear: the scientific community should receive optimal working conditions for creative and cooperative research. Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Chairman of the U Bremen Research Alliance and Rector of the University of Bremen, emphasizes that strong universities support strong non-university research institutions and vice versa.
In summary, it can be said that the inauguration of the first UBRA Meeting Point represents significant progress in the collaboration between the University of Bremen and its partners. This initiative could be a groundbreaking model for future interdisciplinary projects and research alliances.
