24 hours of swimming: teams fight for kilometers and donation records!
This year's 24-hour swim took place on May 10th and 11th, 2025 at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. Around 350 participants in eleven teams competed against each other and swam a total of 1,217.7 kilometers within one day. This campaign not only served as a sporting challenge, but also for a charitable purpose: the proceeds go to the Soldiers and Veterans Foundation.
How hsu-hh.de reported, the team from the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich won with 5,557 laps swum, which corresponds to a distance of 138.9 kilometers. The HSU Piranhas team finished just behind with 5,453 lanes (136.3 km). The EKV team secured third place with 4,778 lanes (119.5 km).
Commitment to a good cause
As part of the event, the Bundeswehr Center for Geoinformation decided to donate 11.50 euros for every kilometer swum. A total of 1,311 euros was raised. The total income for the Soldiers and Veterans Foundation amounted to 4,779 euros, including the proceeds from a tombola and a cake buffet organized by the swimming group.
The event was a great team event, with participants of different ages. The youngest swimmer was just 5 years old, while the oldest participant was an impressive 69 years old.
As part of the official congratulations, President Prof. Beckmann and Bundestag member Aydan Özoguz presented the winning teams and recognized their sporting achievements.
