Digital revolution in law: This is how Bucerius Law School supports you!
Legal education is receiving significant support from new developments, particularly in the area of labor law. The Chair of Civil Law, Labor Law and Civil Procedure Law of Professor Dr. Matthias Jacobs at Bucerius Law School has launched an innovative project to support students in the focus area of work, economics and social affairs (SPB III). The focus is on digital flashcards, which were published in cooperation with the “Examen mit Sandro” platform. These digital tools were launched in 2024 by Sandro Birkenhof, an alumnus of Bucerius Law School.
Particularly noteworthy is the systematic structure of the digital index cards, which have a stringent color and structure system. Each card is interconnected with hyperlinks, which makes learning and connecting the information much easier. The available legal areas include important aspects such as coalition, collective agreement and industrial dispute law, works constitution law, individual labor law and labor procedure law. Another aspect concerns the consideration of the effects of European labor law on the legal areas mentioned, including the influence of Union law on German strike law. This comprehensive connection is important for a thorough understanding of labor law.
Qualification goals of legal education
Training in the field of law has far-reaching qualification goals. Students should not only be able to distinguish between different theoretical approaches to law, but also understand the value and limitations of these methods. In addition, students are expected to deal with fundamental questions of legal philosophy. This involves a critical assessment of the structure and value of legal arguments and an in-depth study of the role of law in society.
The module deals with systematic and historical topics from the theoretical foundations of law and includes legal philosophy, legal sociology and legal economics. Important concepts such as law, morality, decision-making and argumentation are covered. The training also includes dealing with the theories of justice and the social realities of the rule of law, democracy and human rights.
Digital aspects in law
In the context of digitalization and its effects on law, we recommend taking a look at the book “Law of Digitalization,” which was published on November 22, 2023. This work deals with central topics such as fundamental rights related to digitalization, data protection issues and the digitalization of administrative business. The topic is how automated contract conclusion and digital content are changing the legal environment.
The book offers numerous examples as well as review and in-depth questions at the end of each chapter, which is useful for students and practitioners alike. With 356 pages in German, it is a valuable resource for legal training and helps to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in a legal context. The target groups include students in bachelor's and master's programs as well as practitioners in the legal sector.
Overall, these developments illustrate how modern approaches and digital tools enrich legal training and prepare it for the requirements of an increasingly digitalized world.
