HafenCity University Hamburg: 18 scholarships for talented students!

HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) opened the application phase for the coveted “Germany Scholarship” on April 10, 2025. Applications are possible from March 27, 2025, 3:00 p.m. to April 20, 2025, 11:59 p.m. Scholarship holders receive monthly support of 300 euros, which is distributed across various bachelor's and master's degree programs. This program is supported by both the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and private sponsors.

A total of 18 scholarships are awarded, which are aimed at particularly talented and high-performing students of all nationalities. The selection criteria include community and social commitment, international mobility and individual educational biographies. To apply for the scholarship, students must demonstrate a minimum average grade of “Good” (up to 2.5) and meet certain performance requirements based on their academic progress.

Available scholarships and selection criteria

The HCU awards the following scholarships:

  • 1 x Bachelor Technische Gebäudeausstattung mit Digitaler Infrastruktur
  • 2 x Bachelor Bauingenieurwesen
  • 1 x Master Bauingenieurwesen (Kompetenzfeld „Infrastruktur“)
  • 5 x Bachelor / Master Bauingenieurwesen
  • 1 x Master Geodäsie und Geoinformatik
  • 2 x Bachelor Architektur
  • 2 x Bachelor / Master Architektur
  • 2 x Master Architektur (BIM-Bezug oder Migrationshintergrund)

The requirements for students are defined by proof of credit points (CP), which varies depending on the semester. For example, at least 30 CP (of which 25 CP have been completed) must be completed in the 2nd semester. Factors such as first-time academic status, migration background, employment while studying and personal challenges also play a role in the evaluation of applications. A letter of motivation will also be taken into account.

Financial support and application

The Deutschlandstipendium is 300 euros per month, with 150 euros coming from private sponsors and 150 euros from the federal government. Payment is made directly to the scholarship holders via the university. This scholarship is independent of income and can be used in addition to BAföG, making it attractive financial support for many students. In addition, repayment of the funds is not necessary.

The application is made directly to the HCU, whereby the university itself decides whether it offers the Deutschlandstipendium and selects the scholarship holders. It is important that applications meet the specific requirements of the university and that a selection process may be carried out for courses with restricted admission.

The Deutschlandstipendium also supports students with a refugee background, provided they are enrolled at a participating university. With this measure, the program contributes to equal opportunities and integration in higher education.

Those interested can find further information about further training opportunities and details about the scholarships on the respective websites, such as HCU Hamburg or on the official website Germany scholarship.
