HafenCity University Hamburg: German courses for international students!
HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) has announced that a new offer of German language courses for international students will be available in the summer semester of 2025. These courses are entitled “German for Foreigners” and will take place between April 23, 2025 and July 16, 2025 at the HCU facilities. Interested parties from other Hamburg universities are also invited to take part in these language courses.
The registration deadline for all international students is April 14, 2025. Students can look forward to immersing themselves in the German language for 2 to 4 semester hours per week (SWS) during the semester. In addition to the regular semester courses, there are also more intensive language courses that take place during the lecture-free periods.
Course content and structure
The language courses are based on Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which standardizes the acquisition and assessment of language skills. The CEFR defines different levels, ranging from A1 (beginner) to C2 (almost native speaker knowledge). This is particularly advantageous for students who want to prepare for their stay abroad.
The GER is divided into six levels:
- A1 – Anfänger: Versteht und verwendet einfache Sätze.
- A2 – Grundlegende Kenntnisse: Verständigung in routinemäßigen Situationen.
- C2 – Annähernd muttersprachliche Kenntnisse: Müheloses Verständnis in allen Bereichen.
The courses at HCU not only offer theoretical knowledge, but also practical applications and exercises that enable students to actively participate. This promotes speaking, listening and understanding of the language in various everyday contexts.
Intensive language courses and other offers
In addition to the regular courses, intensive language courses are offered in February/March and August/September, which include 2 to 4 hours of daily instruction. These are particularly suitable for students who want to significantly improve their German in a short time.
Further details about the course levels, costs and registration can be found on the HCU website. Students should register in good time to secure a place and plan their language training optimally. This broad and structured range of courses is intended to help students take their German language skills to the next level and make their study time in Hamburg successful. The ability to take part in both regular and intensive courses ensures that there is a suitable solution for every need.
