Innovations for the future: Communicorn Conference in Lüneburg!

The Communicorn Conference will take place at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg on September 16th and 17th, 2025. This event aims to develop community-focused visions of the future and promote social innovation and sustainable change. Those interested have the opportunity to take part in the conference free of charge. The name “Communicorn” combines the terms “community” and “unicorn” and symbolizes the focus on collective success and sustainable approaches. Prof. Dr. Steffen Farny highlights the increasing interest in collaborative approaches to start-up projects, which underlines the relevance of this event.

The conference will include interactive method workshops, workshop discussions and visits to places of change in Lüneburg. The program defines six core areas that cover the various dimensions of social life:

  • Kommunale Verwaltung
  • Ernährung und Landwirtschaft
  • Medien und Journalismus
  • Jugend und Bildung
  • Klimaschutz und Energie
  • Handwerk und Technik

Inspiring speakers and idea pitches

The key speakers at the event include Kübra Gümüşay, author of “Language and Being” and initiator of the co-creation space “eeden” in Hamburg, as well as Prof. Pablo Muñoz, an expert in social innovation and entrepreneurship. These prominent personalities will encourage participants to develop and implement innovative ideas.

A pitch corner will also be set up on both days, giving participants the opportunity to present their own ideas professionally. On the afternoon of September 16th there will also be a visit to the WerkStadt Lüneburg, the Commons Center and the high school at the water tower in order to gain practical insights into current projects.

The role of social innovations

Social innovations are crucial for sustainable development. They offer solutions to societal challenges and are created through close collaboration between citizens, companies and governments. Characteristics of these innovations include changing social structures and processes and promoting new forms of collaboration. They are based on challenges such as social inequalities and environmental problems.

Examples of social innovations include community gardens, microcredit, and the fair trade movement that supports producers in developing countries. In addition, initiatives such as car sharing models promote sustainable alternatives to individual car ownership and social enterprises combine economic goals with social missions.

The importance of such approaches for society is essential. Through resource conservation, social justice and environmental protection, social innovations not only contribute to economic stability, but also strengthen social cohesion in communities.

The Communicorn Conference offers a platform for the exchange and development of ideas that can create a basis for sustainable change. The coming together of a wide variety of actors helps set the course for a common future based on solidarity and cooperation.
