Leuphana University revolutionizes campus life with new all-in-one app!

On March 26, 2025, the Leuphana University of Lüneburg was awarded the Digital Campus Index Award awarded, which evaluates the digital maturity of universities. This award not only recognizes the university's outstanding achievements in the area of digitalization, but also the excellent services it offers its students. The evaluation was based on a comprehensive student survey via the UniNow GmbH campus apps.

Leuphana stands out for its innovative digitalization strategy, which includes, among other things, the introduction of the new all-in-one Leuphana app. This app, which is part of the “Digital University” project, supports around 10,000 students in organizing their studies. Thanks to its diverse functions, the app offers digital access to services that make organizing your studies easier.

Various functions of the Leuphana app

The Leuphana app bundles a variety of useful functions for students:

  • Digitaler Zugang zum Studierendenausweis und Deutschland-Semesterticket.
  • Verwaltung von E-Mails.
  • Aktuelle Informationen über das Mensa-Angebot.
  • Nutzung des Leuphana Online-Shops.
  • Digitaler Campus-Rundgang.
  • Zugang zum Leuphana Podcast-Channel.
  • Über 400 Vergünstigungen für Studierende.
  • Kalender-, Chat- und Newsfunktion.
  • Online-Stellenbörse mit Informationen zu Jobangeboten, Praktika und Trainee-Stellen.

Students have the opportunity to gain practical work experience or look for a student job right at the start of their studies, which is supported by a current study. This service-oriented digitization strategy not only improves the digital and hybrid learning formats, but also strengthens the university's administrative infrastructure.

Digital maturity and university assessment

A total of 12,715 people took part in the survey, which evaluated 239 universities. A university is considered qualified if it has more than 50 votes cast. The Digital Campus Index is calculated based on a star rating from this survey, which relates to the universities' digital equipment in various areas. This includes, among other things, lectures, equipment and administration. The values are standardized and rated on a scale of 0 to 100 points.

Universities in the top 25 of 2024 will receive the “Digital Campus 2024” seal. These awards are awarded based on the number of votes, with equal votes being placed alphabetically.

Digital transformation not only affects teaching, but also research and administration at universities. IT services play a central role here, as does the development of IT governance through the introduction of a CIO function in the university management. This contributes significantly to the coordination of comprehensive IT projects and requires close cooperation between functionaries from research, teaching and administration. This is particularly important because digital change entails structural changes in university culture.
