New cooperation in Hamburg: University and REYHER promote young engineers!

On May 28, 2025, a significant cooperation agreement was signed in Hamburg between the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg and F. REYHER Nchfg. GmbH & Co. KG signed. The signing took place in the presence of Klaus Dieter Schmidt, Managing Director of REYHER, and Axel Puckhaber, Chancellor of Helmut Schmidt University. This partnership aims to promote young talent in technical professions and strengthen the connection between science and business.

The cooperation is scheduled to last four years and will run until 2029. It will start on October 1, 2025 with the new bachelor's degree program in "Mechanical Engineering", which ends with the Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) degree. Up to three study places are offered every year in order to ensure a qualified supply of skilled workers.

Focus on securing skilled workers

The decision for this cooperation comes at a time when the need for highly qualified engineers in the industry is continuously growing. REYHER, a trading company with over 100 years of experience and a wide range of over 130,000 items, processes around 25,000 order items every day with an availability of over 99 percent. This shows the high importance of the company in the fasteners and fastening technology industry in Europe.

There are more than 12,000 REYHER customers worldwide and annual sales are around 435 million euros. To support students' training and practical skills, REYHER will apply modern practices such as Kanban systems and e-business solutions. The company also offers a dual course of study in the field of business informatics, which prepares students to act as an interface between different areas of the company.

Study content and practical relevance

As part of the new bachelor's degree program in "Mechanical Engineering", students acquire basic engineering knowledge in subjects such as mathematics, physics and technical mechanics in the first to third semesters. You will learn to analyze technical tasks and develop solutions both individually and in a team. The second phase of study, which covers the fourth to seventh semesters, deepens these fundamentals in subjects such as electrical drive technology and control technology.

In addition, students have the opportunity to specialize in special elective subjects such as digital production, robotics or sustainable energy systems. A central element of the dual course of study is the practice-oriented training, which is intensified through projects and close collaboration with the cooperation partners.

To recruit students, a university entrance qualification with above-average performance and an interest in technology are required. The training takes place not only in an academic setting, but also in the various departments of REYHER, including e-business, IT, sales and product management.

This new cooperation between the Helmut Schmidt University and REYHER is a step into the future that opens up new perspectives for both students and the company. Adapting the training content to the needs of the industry will make a decisive contribution to securing skilled workers in the region.
