Computer Science Day: Students conquer the digital world!
On September 2, 2025, the Leuphana University of Lüneburg will be the focus of young talent. On the occasion of the upcoming “Informatics Day” on September 9th, the university is offering students in grades 8 to 13 the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of computer science. The event takes place on the Universitätsallee campus and includes various workshops on topics such as web design, chatbots and artificial intelligence.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Ricardo Usbeck, who addresses the topic “Who will tell the stories of tomorrow?” treated. The aim of this day is to promote digital know-how among young people. From 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., participants can present the results of their workshops in Lecture Hall 3.
Promoting digital literacy
Leuphana University is actively involved in the area of digital education through the Data Club Lüneburg. This joint project offers young people school concepts and an opportunity to enter the IT world. In view of the increasing demands of the labor market caused by digitalization and automation, supporting young people in their vocational training is of great importance. Sectors such as crafts, administration and services are severely affected by these changes, which bring new challenges for both employees and companies.
In order to meet these challenges, targeted qualifications are required that build the professional competence of the young generation. An important player in this area is the Institute for Digital Competence in Industry (IfDKI), which offers practical, structured further training in the areas of digitalization and artificial intelligence. The program is aimed at people of all ages and backgrounds who want to improve their career opportunities or reorient themselves.
Digital support for career choices
Digital transformation not only influences the world of work, but also the career choices of young people. This is where the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB) comes in with innovative approaches. BIBB develops digital portals and AI-supported advice to improve access to vocational training. An example of this is the chatbot “Aidy”, which offers personalized information on the recognition of foreign professional qualifications.
These initiatives aim to promote individual decision-making and support career choice requirements. The need to develop specific AI skills for both trainees and trainers is emphasized. The integration of AI into everyday training can help to overcome the daily challenges in companies and vocational schools.
Overall, the upcoming event at Leuphana University shows the urgent need to better prepare young people for the demands of the future. Promoting digital skills is not only a strategic goal of the university, but also a step towards future-proof vocational training.
