Discover the exciting MINT world: research, experiment and be amazed!
On June 16, 2025, the third Kassel “MINT-Mach-Saturday” took place at the University of Kassel. Around 20 interactive hands-on stations invited visitors to experience the world of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology up close. The event offered a diverse program, including a virtual welding simulator, programming offers, soldering stations and 3D printing projects. The MINT van from the North Hesse Student Research Center was also on site and contributed to the lively atmosphere uni-kassel.de reported.
A special highlight of the day was the presentation of young researchers from the “Jugend forscht” competition. They presented their projects and gave the guests insights into creative work with MINT topics. This was part of the effort to get children interested in technical and scientific subjects at an early age, which is also reflected in many educational projects that are carried out nationwide, such as the “MINT is everywhere” program by the Children's Research Foundation.
Interactive experiments and offers
The university's MINT departments offered numerous exciting experiments. Visitors could, among other things:
- Selbst gebaute Wasserraketen abheben lassen,
- Biegebalken aus Schokolade auf ihre Bruchfestigkeit testen,
- Live-Vorführungen aus den Bereichen Werkstofftechnik, technischer Dynamik, Leistungselektronik und Physik erleben.
In addition, the participants had the opportunity to build simple electronic circuits themselves, which was intended to promote interest in technology and equipment. At the end, all young guests received a small surprise to take home.
These approaches to STEM education are crucial to igniting curiosity and the inner explorer in children. Even everyday life becomes a learning field by viewing everyday activities such as digging or setting the table as learning opportunities. This promotes the development of MINT skills in early childhood, which is of great importance for the future of the education system in Germany kinder-mint-bildung.de turns out.
Support and collaborations
The Kassel MINT Mach Saturday was supported by various partners, including Volkswagen, the employers' association HESSENMETALL Nordhessen and Micromata GmbH as well as SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK | ARVOS GmbH. These collaborations show how important it is that schools and companies work together to give children access to MINT subjects and to make them practical.
The combination of interactive offers, projects and excursions at school can make a significant contribution to making the MINT subjects come alive. These investments in STEM education are important not only for the individual development of talent, but also for society as a whole, as they promote innovation and competitiveness and contribute to equal opportunities.
