Experience the future of theater: I see talk!” in Giessen!
Applied Theater Studies at the Justus Liebig University of Gießen is facing an important event: the 30th edition of the “Theatermaschine” exhibition will take place from June 4th to 8th, 2025. Under the motto “I see talk!” The organizers, especially students like Rhea Battaglia and Luke Brandl, deal with current social and political issues.
The opening of the event is planned for June 4, 2025 at 1 p.m. in the Theaterlabor in Gießen. The retrospective offers a variety of formats, including performances, dances, plays, installations, videos and exhibitions. The aim is to draw attention to the political situation and shed light on its effects on artists. In addition to the performances, follow-up discussions with artists are also planned to provide feedback on the works and stimulate discussion.
Free access and call for donations
Participation in the “Theatermaschine” exhibition is free of charge, although donations are requested. Reservation is not required. The event program can be viewed on the official platforms and on Instagram at @theatermaschine25. If you have any questions, Sonja Mogk is available by phone on 0174 8329875 or by email.
Applied Theater Studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen teaches the basics of theater history and theater science. The course focuses on basic artistic and technical skills and enables students to work independently on rehearsal stages and in studios. This training is intended to produce both artists who reflect on their practice theoretically and theorists who develop their theory from practice.
Focus on artistic and scientific training
The field of study particularly appeals to those interested in theater, performance or live art. Here, students have the opportunity to focus on various areas such as dance, musical theater, aesthetic theory, acoustic art, performance, video installation or literature. It is recommended that you bring your own existing artistic work in the relevant area and that you are prepared to engage intensively with the course content.
Students who pursue a master's degree in theater studies acquire in-depth scientific knowledge and professional skills. The master's degree program is aimed at theater research and takes into account the interrelationship between theoretical reflection and artistic-media practice. Graduates are ideally qualified for various jobs in science, theater, film, television, radio, the press and cultural institutions.
Applied Theater Studies in Giessen is therefore an innovative training center in the field of performing arts. Graduates bring a precision of observation and description as well as an interdisciplinary openness to their professional practice. uni-giessen.de reports that this interdisciplinary training not only promotes artistic skills, but also strengthens the ability to reflect on future challenges in the art and culture industry.
