Spring Festival at Goethe University: Science and culture united!
The Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main is making major preparations for the 11th Spring Festival, which will take place on May 18, 2025 in the Science Garden. The event has established itself over the years as a fixed date in the cultural calendar and offers a varied program for the entire family from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The numerous offerings include information about science, culture, music, sport and culinary highlights.
The festival's thematic tours cover a wide range of topics such as pollinators, mushrooms, tomatoes, soil science and medicinal plants. The ideas on sustainability receive particular attention, with a pop-up bike repair stand for the spring check of bicycles and information stands from the sustainability office that provide information about current projects and initiatives. The program also promises an interesting cultural experience with performances of improvisational theater and comedy, a photography exhibition in the Great Greenhouse and live music ranging from K-pop to jazz.
Special features of the Spring Festival
A highlight of the spring festival is the plant exchange, which allows visitors to purchase vegetable and ornamental plants, supplemented by advice from experienced gardeners. Dr. Carsten Siebert will present works of art from the art collection that were created between 2009 and 2020. The science garden itself, which opened on June 1, 2014, includes a greenhouse, experimental greenhouse, climate chambers and a spacious outdoor area of three hectares. This garden is the university's third and has its historical roots in the garden founded by Johann Christian Senckenberg in 1763.
The university looks back on a successful spring festival in 2023, which fell on Mother's Day and attracted around 2,000 visitors. With pleasant temperatures, a varied program awaited the guests, which included, among other things, dance courses and SpikeBall. This shows Goethe University's commitment to the topics of biodiversity and sustainability, which are further supported by the RobustNature excellence initiative. This initiative is dedicated to research on water, organismal interactions and systemic risks.
Arrival and entry
The event is freely accessible to anyone interested. It is recommended to travel by public transport, especially the U8 or U9 subway line to the Uni Campus Riedberg stop. For detailed information about the program and themes of the Spring Festival, the university website is available: www.uni-frankfurt.de/fruehlingsfest. If you have any further questions, you can contact Jessica Gehre, Central Event Management at Goethe University.
In the context of the upcoming events, the sustainable orientation of the Spring Festival also addresses social responsibility, which will be demonstrated by numerous national and international conferences on the topic of climate and environmental protection in 2025. For example, the next World Climate Conference will take place in November 2025 in Belém, Brazil, where global climate challenges will be addressed (see also How Green Works ). The events in 2025 demonstrate a growing awareness of the urgency of the issues of sustainability and climate protection.
The Goethe University sets an example with its spring festival and combines scientific findings with cultural experiences, while at the same time actively contributing to raising awareness of environmental and climate issues. The Spring Festival will therefore not only be a celebration of spring, but also an important forum for the exchange of ecological challenges and solutions.
