Application guidelines and requirements
There are some specific requirements to consider for prospective students coming from abroad. Citizens from non-EU countries must have a school leaving certificate equivalent to the German Abitur and they should also have sufficient German language skills. Information about foreign qualifications that enable university entrance in Germany is available on the website of the Central Office for Foreign Education and in the DAAD admissions database, as provided by University Compass reported.
If the school leaving certificate does not correspond to the German Abitur, an assessment test is required. This test is subject-specific and can vary depending on the university to which the application is made. To prepare for this exam, you can attend a one-year course at a preparatory college.
Important information for international students
In addition, international students need a visa to enter Germany and study there. This visa must be applied for at the German embassy or the German consulate in your home country before entering the country. It is initially valid for three months and is issued even though no admission has yet been received from a university or preparatory college.
After receiving approval, the visa can be converted into a study visa. It is important to note that a tourist visa cannot be converted into a study visa. Requirements for the visa also include health insurance, sufficient knowledge of German and proof of self-financing of living expenses during your studies.
If you have any questions about choosing a course of study or applying, the Central General Student Advisory Service at the University of Marburg is available. Interested parties can contact them via email or telephone to receive assistance with their application process.
