On April 22, 2025, the Vice President for Education at the Philipps University of Marburg, Prof. Dr. Yvonne Zimmermann, all students for the summer semester 2025. The university, which looks back on an almost 500-year tradition of studying, teaching and research, presents itself as a place of lived diversity that promotes curiosity, openness and freedom. Over the course of the semester, the university will adopt a new look and feel that reflects the self-image of its community.
The university's wide range of subjects enables flexible combinations and reflects the diversity of its members. A particularly noteworthy element is the Marburg module, which offers students the opportunity to deal with central topics such as sustainability, equal opportunities and digitalization. In addition, an interdisciplinary series entitled "University - what's the point of? Marburg 1527-2027" is offered, which focuses on the history of the university and important developments in its course.
Networking and support for starting your studies
Philipps University emphasizes the importance of networking and personal exchange with teachers and fellow students for student success. Good support from teachers, support systems and student councils should make it easier for students to start their studies. Short distances and a wide range of opportunities characterize student life in Marburg, where university groups and student initiatives offer space for projects and social contacts.
In a further step, the student ID card will be given a digital format in the summer semester that is equipped with useful functions. This gives students free entry to the art museum, the Hessian State Theater and the theater next to the tower. The university summer festival will also take place on July 25th, where students can network with each other.
Language and seminar offerings in summer
In parallel to the regular course offerings, the university is also starting the International Summer University program (ISU). This is aimed at students in bachelor's degree programs and other interested parties who would like to acquire or expand their German language skills. Applications have been possible since December 2024, and an early bird discount of EUR 250 will be granted for registrations by April 1, 2025. The arrival day for participants is July 26th, while the departure day is August 23rd.
The ISU program addresses current challenges for Germany and the EU, such as crises, tensions and conflicts that are relevant in today's world. These include Brexit, migration and international terrorism, but also the return of right-wing populism and authoritarianism as well as the effects of the corona pandemic on national and international relations. The seminars offered cover areas such as history, politics, society and culture and are supplemented by excursions and a supporting program.
