Strengthening European values: EUPeace Lunch Debate in Brussels!

The EUPeace Lunch Debate with the theme “Strengthening European Values” will take place in Brussels on March 25, 2025. This important event is aimed at employees of the University of Marburg and offers a platform for exchange on central aspects of European higher education.

The event is supported by the EUPeace Alliance, which consists of nine universities from seven different countries. These alliances play an essential role in promoting European values and social cohesion. They aim to strengthen active citizenship, critical thinking and social responsibility among students.

Central topics of the debate

Several key questions will be addressed during the discussion. This includes improving teaching and research to optimally prepare students for the job market, as well as strategies to promote human rights and inclusion. The focus is also on measures against disinformation and to strengthen resilient, democratic societies. The target groups of this debate are university management, teachers, students and political decision-makers.

The event not only offers the opportunity to get to know experts and their strategies, but also to actively engage in exchange. Participants can take part in the event from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Pilsen House, 31 Place de Jamblinne de Meux, 1030 Brussels.

Event details and registration

The agenda includes registration and coffee starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by welcoming remarks from representatives of the Pilsen Region and EUPeace. A highlight of the event will be the keynote speech by Prof. Hélène Pauliat at 11:45 a.m., followed by an expert panel. The networking lunch continues to offer the opportunity for personal exchange.

Participation in the event is free, but places are limited to 60 people. Registration is required by March 15, 2025. Travel and accommodation costs are not covered; Catering will be provided during the event. Anyone interested can contact Alexandre Wipf at the email address info@eupeace.eu report.

Looking at the wider context, it is important to note that this event is part of a wider initiative. According to that DAAD The EU is taking significant steps to promote university cooperation through the creation of European universities. There are currently 65 university alliances in Europe that pursue a common strategy in research and teaching.

These initiatives aim to shape a European higher education landscape that is qualitative and competitive. With over 570 participating universities from 35 countries, including countries such as Albania and Ukraine, the breadth and diversity of these university alliances is evident.

In Germany, 67 universities are involved in 59 of 65 funded alliances, which represents the largest number of participants. This initiative is part of the EU Commission's European Higher Education Strategy, which aims to create 60 non-alliance universities by 2024. The EUPeace Lunch Debate is therefore not only an event for the exchange of ideas, but also an important opportunity to discuss and strengthen the role of universities in European society.
