UNISTART: Welcome, freshmen! Everything you need to start your studies at Goethe University
The Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites its new students to UNISTART on April 16, 2025. Over 2,700 first-year students are enrolled for the summer semester and will be officially welcomed on Wednesday in the lecture hall center on the Westend campus. The event, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., serves to provide information and get to know students and the university.
The welcome begins at 2:00 p.m. In addition to the Vice President Prof. Dr. Sabine Andresen will address Eileen O’Sullivan, city councilor, and Alessio Dale, AStA board member, with greetings to the new students. The program includes various lectures and Q&A sessions designed to give students valuable insights into university life.
Diverse program and information offerings
The topics of the lectures are diverse. Information about IT services for students is provided by the University Computing Center. The current exhibition “Fixing Futures” will also be presented at the Giersch Museum. The student literary magazine “Johnny” will also provide insights into how they work. In addition, there is a trade fair in the lecture hall center, which offers opportunities for discussions with contacts and higher semester students.
Particularly worth mentioning is the welcome gift - the UNISTART welcome bag, which new students can fill with various materials at the stands. These elements are intended to help support new students in their early days at the university.
Preparations for studies
It is important for new students to familiarize themselves with the organization and processes at the university in advance of the event. In subject-specific orientation and introductory events there will be specific information on how to create the timetable. The course catalog is accessible via the Alma portal, where you can also find information about courses and exams.
Students should be aware that access to the Alma portal is done using the login details of the student email address, which will be sent in a letter. The information from the application phase is not permanently valid. The examination regulations and the module handbook are an important basis for binding information.
The first courses begin on the Tuesday after Easter and a total of around 39,000 students are expected at Goethe University in the summer semester. The UNISTART team, consisting of Kerstin Rozsa, Patrick Schmitz and Joshua Goede, is available to new students at any time if they have any questions - either in person during the event or by email at unistart@uni-frankfurt.campuservice.de.
In summary, UNISTART is a central event for all first-year students at Goethe University and offers a valuable opportunity to get used to the new academic environment and make contacts. Further details are available in the WEGWEISER for the summer semester 2025.
