Future in sight: Conference on crisis management and responsibility

The conference “After us the Flood” will take place on May 22nd and 23rd, 2025, which will deal with crisis management between externalization and generativity. The event is organized by Goethe University in collaboration with the Institute for Social Research and the Sigmund Freud Institute. By analyzing the psychological and social mechanisms of climate change, perspectives for joint and responsible action towards future generations should be developed.

The conference will take place at the Sigmund Freud Institute, Myliusstraße 20, 60323 Frankfurt. Thematic focuses are sociological and social psychological-psychoanalytic approaches and philosophical considerations. The aim is to question illusionary perspectives and develop new approaches to solidarity.

Topics and program items

The event will also include a panel discussion entitled “End-time scenarios and generativity on the opera stage”. For this purpose, productions of the operas “Melusine” by Aribert Reimann and “Der Rosenkavalier” by Richard Strauss are used. These artistic contributions are intended to encourage engagement with the topic of the crisis and create new opportunities for experience in order to meet the challenges of climate change ifs.uni-frankfurt.de reported.

Speakers include Dennis Eversberg, Vera King and Christine Kirchhoff. Representatives of the Frankfurt Opera, such as Aileen Schneider and Maximilian Enderle, will also take part in the panel discussion. This diverse cast is intended to open up different perspectives and promote dialogue about the psychosocial impacts of climate change.
