Academic celebration in Greifswald: Prizes awarded for outstanding research!
On June 20, 2025, an academic ceremony took place at the University of Greifswald at which numerous academic degrees were awarded. The ceremony was a highlight for the graduates of the last 12 months, during which a total of 22 habilitations and 216 doctorates were successfully completed. The focus was not only on the graduations, but also on the awarding of the Käthe Kluth Prize, which honors outstanding achievements in science.
The event was started with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Burkard Baschek, director of the German Maritime Museum. His topic “Research and geopolitics – and their communication, limits and mistakes” stimulated a wide range of discussions.
Awards and prize winners
Another highlight of the celebration was the announcement of the doctoral awards, which were awarded by the Association of Friends and Supporters of the University of Greifswald. These prizes, each worth 300 euros, were awarded to the following winners:
- Dr. Jytte Lauenstein (Rechts- und Staatswissenschaftliche Fakultät) für „Paritätisches Wahlrecht – Eine rechtsvergleichende Untersuchung zu Deutschland und Frankreich“.
- Nina Pilz (Philosophische Fakultät) für „,Coronavorbilder‘, negative Spitzenreiter‘, ,Pandemieweltmeister‘. Zum Einfluss der COVID-19 Pandemie auf journalistische Raumerzählungen am Beispiel von Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und Schweden“.
- Sabrina Dorothea Ross (PhD) (Medizinische Fakultät) für „Non-Pharmacological Interventions in Focus: Opportunities in the Management of Dementia and Subjective Cognitive Decline”.
- Dr. Leonard Schmitz (Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät) für „Hopf Algebras Related to Image and Time Series Data“.
In addition, the Käthe Kluth junior group 2025 was announced. Dr. Amrei Koch from the Faculty of Theology was honored as the winner. This scholarship has been awarded to outstandingly qualified young female scientists since 2007.
