Health and Sustainability Days in Greifswald: Actively shaping the future!
On June 23rd and 24th, 2025, an important event will take place in Greifswald: the Health and Sustainability Days, organized by the University of Greifswald, Greifswald University Medicine and the Greifswald Student Union. The aim of this event is to provide impulses for a future-oriented and healthy life. As part of this event, the annual meeting of the One Health Region Western Pomerania initiative will also take place on June 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the university's main building, Domstrasse 11.
The annual conference is aimed at decision-makers from various areas, including science, business, politics, culture and administration. A central concern of this meeting is the networking of participants and the identification of challenges in health and sustainability. The event aims to initiate collaborations and discuss funding opportunities. The highlight of the day will be the One Health trade fair, which brings together regional organizations promoting the health of people, the environment and animals.
Diverse program
The day of action on June 24, 2025 with the motto “Together, sustainable & healthy” will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Berthold-Beitz-Platz in Greifswald. The target group includes students, members of the university and university medicine as well as citizens. Visitors can look forward to hands-on activities, guided tours and workshops that highlight the connection between health and sustainability.
Dr. Tiemo Timmermann is one of the co-organizers of these health and sustainability days, while Dr. Elisabeth Böker can be contacted as press spokesperson and head of university communications. This represents an excellent opportunity to support local initiatives and learn about current challenges and solutions.
One Health – An integrative approach
A central theme of the event is the “One Health” approach, which recognizes the close connection between the health of people, animals and ecosystems. This concept aims to promote well-being and combat threats to health and ecosystems. One Health mobilizes various sectors and disciplines and promotes awareness of the interactions between human actions and the health of people, animals and the environment. One Health Region explains that the approach includes measures against climate change and contributes to sustainable development, which will be explained to the event participants during the days.
The relevance of One Health is particularly evident in the context of *neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)*, which affect more than a billion people, often in low- and middle-income countries. Untreated NTDs can result in serious consequences such as death or chronic illness. Combating these diseases requires an integrative approach that considers the interfaces between people, infectious vectors, the environment and food. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development emphasizes the need for such approaches to promote health at a global level.
The Health and Sustainability Days in Greifswald are not only a platform for exchange and networking, but also an expression of a global commitment to finding sustainable solutions to pressing health issues.
