On October 10, 2025, the ceremonial enrollment at the University of Rostock took place in the St. Marien Church. Over 2,800 high school graduates found their way into the university, bringing the current enrollment number to 2,822 freshmen - 43 more than last year, as reported University of Rostock reported. On this occasion, students, family members and representatives of the university gathered to celebrate the new students' first step into their academic life.

Among the 2,822 newly enrolled students there are 1,548 women and 1,265 men, as well as 9 diverse or no information. A special aspect is the international component: 306 of the new students come from abroad. The university as a whole now has 12,460 enrolled students, including 1,301 international students. These numbers illustrate the growing appeal of the University of Rostock, as well the time supplemented.

Innovative courses and celebrations

The university's popularity can also be attributed to innovative courses, such as the new master's courses in "Sustainable Maritime Engineering" and "Demography and Sociology", which were introduced in the current winter semester. In her speech, Rector Prof. Elizabeth Prommer emphasized the importance of time for personal development and free thinking at the university and encouraged the first-year students to see their studies as an opportunity.

The traditional procession for the matriculation ceremony began at Universitätsplatz and led to St. Mary's Church, where greetings were given by Bettina Martin, the Minister for Education, Science and Culture, as well as by Eva-Maria Kröger, the Mayor of Rostock, and other personalities. Also worth mentioning is the celebratory speech given by Vice Rector Lena Lemke, which touched upon the new students.
