On July 18, 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of Göttingen will say goodbye to its graduates in a festive ceremony. A total of 248 students and 20 doctoral students have successfully completed their studies or doctorates, like the University of Göttingen reported.

The event will take place in the auditorium at Wilhelmsplatz at 2 p.m. and will be chaired by Dean Prof. Dr. Andreas L. Paulus opens. A greeting will be given by Dr. Simon Schnelle, Vice President of the State Judicial Examination Office, will hold. This promises an inspiring atmosphere, especially thanks to the keynote speech by Dr. Tim Eicke, who is a judge at the European Court of Human Rights and has the title “Enrich Detours”.

Prizes for outstanding dissertations

Particularly noteworthy are the faculty awards for the best dissertations of 2024 and 2025. Dr. Shaghayegh Ashrafzadeh Kian is honored for her work entitled “The legal status of the unaccompanied minor refugee”. the University of Göttingen informed. Her dissertation deals with the migration and social law status of this vulnerable group and calls for a revision of national legislation. The analysis shows that national regulations do not adequately address the complexities and international dimension of the issue.

The Faculty Prize for 2025 goes to Marwin Kerlen, who is being honored for his dissertation on “Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenförde and the constitutional and religious-political debates in divided Germany (1957–1983)”. Both prizes are endowed with 1,500 euros each and are intended to honor academic excellence at the Faculty of Law.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Göttingen is part of a total of 43 law faculties at state and state-recognized universities in Germany.
