250 years of Clausthal University of Technology: Ceremony with a special stamp delights guests!
On March 8, 2025, a special stamp commemorating the institution's 250th anniversary will be presented at the Clausthal University of Technology. The event took place in the Aula Academica, where over 100 guests took part. Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer, President of Clausthal University of Technology, emphasized the importance of the stamp as an ambassador for the anniversary. The special stamp symbolizes various aspects such as energy, modernity and creativity, as well as holistic thinking in cycles.
This stamp is part of the celebrations for the anniversary of Clausthal University of Technology, which dates back to 1775. The Federal Ministry of Finance has issued the stamp, which has been available in Deutsche Post branches since March 1, 2025 at a price of 2.90 euros. The design, which is made in the classicist Didot font, refers to the founding of the university and refers to its long history of tradition.
The special stamp and its creation
The motif of the special stamp was designed by Prof. Christopher Jung from Berlin and shows the university's connection to the industrial and energy sector, which is anchored in the Harz region. Martin Chaudhuri from the Federal Ministry of Finance explained the complex approval process for creating the stamp. Around 500 proposals are submitted every year, of which only one in ten is approved.
The special stamp was printed in a circulation of 1.14 million copies. Following the presentation, selected people who have rendered outstanding services to the university received gift albums with the brand, including Prof. Ernst Schaumann and Mayor Petra Emmerich-Kopatsch.
Academic Achievements and Future Directions
The Clausthal University of Technology has made a name for itself not only through its historical significance, but also through its excellent academic offerings. Departments such as energy, mechanical engineering and process engineering are part of a comprehensive range of courses that is continually being expanded. The university's current theme, the “Circular Economy,” focuses on resource-efficient economic methods and sustainable materials.
During the ceremony, Prof. Jens-André Paffenholz gave a lecture on the latest research results and presented an innovative laser scanner that is used to measure historical mining structures. The event was musically accompanied by the university's chamber choir, which presented the traditional Steigerlied.
The special stamp “250 Years of Clausthal University of Technology” is not only a souvenir, but also a sign of appreciation for the university’s contributions to science and technology over the course of its 250-year history.
