DigiLab opens: Creative future for students in Osnabrück!
The DigiLab at the University of Osnabrück opens its doors to students and teachers, offering an innovative space to promote creativity and digital skills. Under the motto “Digital Learning Life”, the aim is to learn and deepen the use of new technologies and digital services. The opening is planned for July 21, 2025 and is aimed at everyone who wants to experience digital learning in practice.
The DigiLab is part of the UOS.DLL project and relies on the principle of “learning by doing”. Visitors can use various technical and digital devices in a specially equipped makerspace. These include, among other things, 3D printers, laser cutters, embroidery machines and powerful PC workstations with useful software. Similar digital teaching approaches are also addressed in the “Education in the Digital World” strategy of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK), which serves as an action plan for the digital transformation of education in Germany reports the KMK.
Facilities and offers
The DigiLab offers a variety of offerings, including bookable podcast rooms and an area for virtual and augmented reality. Micromodules (MiMos) are available for self-directed learning, which last between 60 and 90 minutes and can be completed at your own pace. The use of the equipment on site is free of charge, but you must bring your own materials.
There is also the option to borrow video and audio recording devices that can be used for study-related projects. The loan service is available not only to students, but also to teachers and employees of the university. The DigiLab requires a university ID and the creation of a user account when registering.
Opening times and conditions
From July 21, 2025, the DigiLab will be open Monday to Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For people under 14 years of age, the use of devices is only permitted under the supervision of a legal guardian. The DigiLab sees itself as an access point for digital education and expansion of one's own skills in a supportive environment.
The strategies and developments initiated by initiatives such as DigiLab are in line with the goals of the KMK. This emphasizes the importance of school development and the quality of digital learning in order to sustainably transform education in the digital world. The interactive equipment and the practice-oriented offerings in the DigiLab represent an important step towards meeting these goals.
