Experience progress: Open day in the Drilling Simulator Celle!

The Drilling Simulator Celle (DSC), an innovative research center at Clausthal University of Technology, is dedicated to researching deep drilling technologies and interdisciplinary research approaches. On May 17, 2025, the DSC will open its doors from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and invites interested parties to an exciting open day. The event will focus on topics such as the “circular economy” and the sustainable management of energy, materials and information. University President Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer emphasizes the importance of this event for the visibility of the university in the Celle region.

On the open day, visitors have the opportunity to find out about the courses offered at Clausthal University of Technology. A varied program awaits guests, which also includes special hands-on activities for children and young people. These campaigns are intended to stimulate interest in sustainable raw material extraction and green hydrogen. Tours of the drilling simulator take place at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., giving participants exciting insights into the technologies behind the complex deep drilling processes.

Special supporting program

The event will be accompanied musically by the jazz trio “Orchester Valentino” from Hanover. Snacks and drinks are also available, while younger visitors can play in a bouncy castle and giant LEGO. The venue for the open day is the Drilling Simulator Celle, located at Zum Drilling Simulator 1, 29221 Celle. There is free parking available in the neighboring BakerHughes company car park, accessible via the BakerHughes roundabout. Further information is available on the website www.dsc.tu-clausthal.de/openday.

The DSC is not only a place of research, but also an important research network at Clausthal University of Technology, whose aim is to reduce technical, economic and environmentally relevant project risks in deep drilling projects for the energetic use of the geological subsoil. With a special experimental and simulation environment, the DSC promotes novel research work in complex deep drilling technology. Third-party funding comes from industry as well as federal ministries and the German Research Foundation, which underlines the importance of interdisciplinary research efforts.

International Conference on Deep Drilling Technologies

The conference program includes over 30 specialist lectures from science and business and highlights the ecological and economic aspects of resource development. An accompanying specialist exhibition from the deep drilling and service industry will complement the discussions.
