Ceremonial ceremony: TU Clausthal in a golden anniversary atmosphere!

The central ceremony for the 250th anniversary of Clausthal University of Technology will take place on June 21, 2025. This anniversary event, which is associated with great expectations, will be celebrated with 500 to 600 invited guests. Among those present are Prime Minister Olaf Lies and Science Minister Falko Mohrs. The ceremony will be broadcast live from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in two lecture halls at TU Clausthal: in the Audimax, located in the main building of the university, and in the Peter Dietz lecture hall of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at Robert-Koch-Straße 32.

The weekend also offers a comprehensive presentation of the university and student life. This takes place in the courtyard of the main building and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the ceremony, an Alumni Day on June 20th with around 300 participants and the topic “Quo vadis: Clausthal University of Technology through the ages” round off the anniversary program.

Review of the Long Night of Science

A highlight of the celebrations was the Long Night of Science, which took place on June 20th after a break of several years. Hundreds of interested people took the opportunity to visit the TU Clausthal institutes. They experienced exciting lectures, impressive demonstrations and hands-on activities that were intended to revive interest in science and research. A special highlight was the science slam, which captivated the audience.

The local city festival ensured the physical well-being of the visitors with a selection of food and drinks. The crowning conclusion of the day was the Clausthal Midnight Cry, which sounded at midnight on Marktkirchenplatz and rounded off the celebrations.

Social relevance and outlook

The celebrations surrounding the 250th anniversary of TU Clausthal are not only a look back at the long history of the university, but also a look into the future. The UN's 2030 Agenda, which promotes sustainable development, is also a focus of the university. This agenda contains more than the 17 individual goals of sustainable development and provides a comprehensive framework for action.

In this context, it is emphasized that five action-guiding principles were derived from the resolution, which can serve as implementation principles. An infographic entitled “Achieving the 2030 Agenda – but how?” offers further information and approaches to achieve these goals. Clausthal University of Technology is thus reaffirming its commitment to a sustainable future and the contribution of science to society.
