Göttingen illuminated: Over 25,000 visitors at the Night of Knowledge!

On June 22, 2025, the sixth Night of Knowledge took place in Göttingen, which represented an impressive pilgrimage destination for those interested in science and the curious. With up to 25,000 visitors, this event was a complete success. The Night of Knowledge was held again in the summer and invited people to an educational and entertaining evening with over 420 events at 39 locations in the city.

The events were open from 5 p.m. to midnight and offered a variety of formats, including science slams, lectures, workshops and interactive presentations. The topics covered a wide range of natural sciences, humanities and social sciences and dealt with current research questions and results.

Diverse events and institutions

The selection of venues was particularly diverse. In addition to the traditionally used premises of the Göttingen University Medical Center, several Max Planck Institutes, the German Primate Center and the German Aerospace Center were also actively involved. The Göttingen cultural institutions also contributed to the success of the event. The participating institutions worked together to plan an attractive program that was tailored to the interests of the visitors.

A highlight of the night was the offer from the Göttingen Scientific Society (GWDG), which came up with special activities. This included an informative tour of their data center, which offered visitors an insight into modern data processing. Those interested were also able to meet the GWDG's PhD students in the SUB foyer and find out more about current research projects.

Entrance and accessibility

Entry to all events was free and the organizers provided a free bus shuttle between the various venues. This measure made it easier for visitors to take part in several program items and contributed to the Night of Knowledge's attractiveness.

After the successful evening in Göttingen, the people of Dresden can also look forward to their “Long Night of Sciences”, which will take place on June 20, 2025. With a similar concept, the citizens of the state capital can look forward to exciting insights into research and innovation. While Göttingen already presented a diverse program in the summer, Dresden can traditionally expect an extensive offering that appeals to all age groups. These events strengthen the connection between science and society and provide insights into current research developments.
