Göttingen trainees celebrate success: 30 degrees and special honors!

On September 4, 2025, 30 trainees from the University of Göttingen successfully completed their training. Outstanding achievements were recognized at a festive ceremony. Dr. Valérie Schüller, Vice President of Finance and Human Resources, presented certificates and cash prizes to the ten best-performing trainees.

Particularly distinguished graduates include Niklas Kopp, who graduated as an electronics engineer for devices and systems with a grade one and received a bonus of 300 euros. The same applied to Jesko-Herwin Haack (precision mechanic), Cora Diederich and Sophie Mona Sarkis (both biology laboratory technicians) as well as David Schlieper, who graduated with top marks as a clerk in office management.

Honors and new trainees

In addition, trainees were awarded a grade of two and each received a bonus of 200 euros: Anna-Lena Böker (veterinary assistant), Janos Pfeilsticker (electronics engineer for devices and systems) and Joanna Reneé Blümel (assistant for media and information services). A special highlight was the honoring of Judith Stier, who was the first state winner in Lower Saxony and the first national winner at the German Craft Championships 2024, with a prize of 1,600 euros. Leon Hinzmann (precision mechanic) was the first state winner in Lower Saxony to receive 700 euros.

This year's ceremony took place as part of the Welcome Week for new trainees. 34 new trainees have started their training in 16 different professions at the University of Göttingen. The university (excluding university medicine) is currently training 95 trainees in 19 training professions. Further information about Welcome Week is available on the University of Göttingen website.

Training situation in Germany

The most popular training occupations in 2023 were primarily commercial professions. Chefs, IT specialists and electronics engineers for devices and systems were also highly sought after. Plumber training had the highest proportion of unfilled places in 2023.

There are numerous training opportunities in Göttingen. Companies such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Sartorius or the Mahr Group offer significant training positions. Further training opportunities can also be found at the police and other regional companies.

Training in the region is an important part of the local economy. The general conditions still appear challenging, particularly due to the discrepancy between supply and demand. Future-oriented measures could therefore be crucial in actually filling the training positions.
