Green steel and circular economy: Future Forum at Clausthal University of Technology!

On June 18, 2025, an important event entitled “Green Steel – The Path to Climate Neutrality” will take place at the Clausthal University of Technology (TUC). This was organized in cooperation with the GMH Group and Salzgitter AG. The focus is on the challenges of the steel industry and the principles of the circular economy, which are seen as the key to a more sustainable future. tu-clausthal.de reports that the event offers a comprehensive program ranging from lectures to poster presentations and exchange opportunities. These take place in the Aula Academica from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Following this program, the event “The Circular Economy and the Common Good” will be held as part of the “# EU Green Week” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Campus Open Air, part of the TU Clausthal festival week, puts another accent on the festivities. University President Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer will open the event and emphasize the importance of sustainable development in the region.

Campus life and sports

Clausthal University of Technology also celebrated a great campus run during the festival week, in which over 1,000 members of the university took part. A record 350 runners, including the university president and vice president, took part in the event. Dr. Sebastian Sdrenka, head of the sports institute, moderated the event. Alexander Fürle won the men's race in an impressive 26:09 minutes, while Heike Eberhardt won the women's race with a time of 36:52 minutes.

The Campus Open Air also offered numerous activities, including face painting, photo booths, a bungee trampoline, campus games and a variety of food trucks. In a cocktail bar, the executive committee took over the service and ensured the physical well-being of those present. In particular, the 500 students and employees who wore green T-shirts underlined the community's connection to the topic of sustainability.

Circular economy in focus

The Clausthal University of Technology has recently worked intensively on the topic of circular economy. The Harz region in Lower Saxony is known for its historic mining tradition and the technological capabilities that support this transition to a circular economy. The TU strives to transform society towards a circular economic model that uses resources efficiently and avoids waste. green-week.event.europa.eu highlights that the event will also enable a dialogue between stakeholders and citizens, addressing questions on consumer behavior, recycling technologies and policy frameworks.

In addition, initiatives in the circular economy address the need to design products so that they can be recycled into biological or technical cycles. The circular economy approach is at the heart of the European agenda, with the EU Commission seeking to accelerate this development. environment-journal.at points out that the need to convert waste into valuable materials and ensure material health is paramount to promote sustainable economic strategies.
