On June 27, 2025, outstanding lecturers at the University of Osnabrück were honored for their commitment to teaching. The prizes honor the importance of good teaching for rapid study progression and high-quality degrees. This year, a total of 27 teachers were nominated for the Hans Mühlenhoff Prize, reflecting the diversity and commitment at the university. Prof. Dr. In his speech, Jochen Oltmer, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, praised the high quality of teaching and the regular adaptation of the content to new findings.
The award winners are:
- Erster Preis: Julia Poschmann (Fachbereich Erziehungs- und Kulturwissenschaften)
- Schwerpunkte: politische Bildung von Grundschulkindern, Kinderrechte, demokratische Teilhabe.
- Nominierung für den Preis im vierten Jahr in Folge.
- Zweiter Preis: Dr. Laura Mae Jacqueline Herzog und Dr. Dr. Johannes Halbe (Fachbereich Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften)
- Leitung des Seminars „Zukunftslabor“ im Masterstudiengang „Gesellschaft – Umwelt – Zukunft“.
- Hervorragende Kommunikation und interaktive Seminargestaltung.
- Dritter Preis: Dr. Björn Brandes (Fachbereich Erziehungs- und Kulturwissenschaften)
- Fokus auf praxisbezogenen Unterricht in Sportpädagogik und frühkindlicher Bildung im Sport.
The price and its meaning
The awards were given by Dr. h.c. Hans Mühlenhoff donated it to support the promotion of good academic teaching. Nominations are made by students who must be supported by at least five other students. A jury made up of students with tutorial experience and teachers evaluates the nominations based on various criteria. This includes the topicality of the teaching content, the use of modern media and the creative design of examination forms.
The Hans Mühlenhoff Foundation emphasizes that good teaching not only makes it easier for students to learn, but also contributes to ensuring the quality of the entire range of courses on offer. This initiative highlights the need to continually evaluate and improve teaching to meet the changing needs of the professional world. Ongoing evaluation is a central component of the German higher education system, which includes a variety of quality assurance mechanisms, such as the accreditation of study programs by the Accreditation Council Foundation.
