Innovative research at TU Braunschweig: Discover health in the microclimate!
On April 17, 2025 there will be exciting news at the Technical University of Braunschweig. The university is now participating in the new research network Climate.Future Laboratory UMEX-HOPE. This project examines the effects of the microclimate on health and is financed with around 5 million euros from the zukunft.niedersachsen funding program from Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation. This initiative shows TU Braunschweig's commitment to research on climate change adaptation and health promotion.
Under the direction of Michelangelo Grappadelli, a doctoral student at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, the laminar boundary layer of aircraft wings is also being researched in the SE2A Cluster of Excellence. This research is particularly relevant given the challenges ahead in aviation.
Sustainability in aviation
The discussion about sustainability in aviation will be further fueled by an upcoming symposium on November 13, 2025 in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. Under the motto “Mission 2035”, this event aims to reduce the climate impact in aviation and achieve climate neutrality. Despite ongoing technical change, innovative solutions such as hydrogen drives are not yet ready for the market. The availability of sustainable fuels (SAF) also falls short of expectations, which poses significant challenges for the industry.
The symposium on sustainable aviation 2025, which represents the fifth edition of this format, will offer a top-class forum for experts from industry and research. The program includes keynotes, specialist lectures and interactive sessions that are intended to promote intensive exchange and the development of innovative ideas. Topics such as geopolitical threats in Europe and the importance of military aviation for sustainability are also on the agenda. Sustainable aviation addresses these aspects additionally.
Activities and honors at TU Braunschweig
The TU Braunschweig will also host two inaugural lectures on April 23, 2025. Prof. Julia Gebert will talk about "LIFE IN WASTE is not wasted! Sustainability in waste and resource management through biological processes", while Prof. Torsten Sachs will talk about the question "More moor? How rewetting and drought change the greenhouse gas dynamics in fens". These lectures are part of a series of events aimed at reaching a wide audience.
Christian Müller also reports on his sabbatical abroad, while around 130 students from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences planted 30,000 flower bulbs on campus. On the occasion of Stephanie Michel's 45th anniversary, the employees of the Institute for Particle Technology presented a digital bouquet of flowers. The lunch break short lectures “Gender meets MINT” take place on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. in the old building and are open to anyone interested.
Another exciting aspect is the nomination of Prof. Eduard Jorswieck as a member of the National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI) for his pioneering work in security at the physical transmission layer and his contributions to 6G technologies. Such honors underline the importance of TU Braunschweig in the scientific community.
The variety of events at TU Braunschweig, which range from lectures to discussions and concerts, shows the university's broad commitment to education and research in a wide variety of areas. The coming days promise all sorts of excitement and knowledge transfer at the university.
